Educational Mission Statement

As a teacher I strive to motivate, inspire, encourage, and support students. My classroom will be a safe, secure and loving environment for all students. I aspire to help them develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively. I aim to create life-long learners because my students are the future.

Elementary Education

I had planned nearly my entire life to be an elementary school teacher. My own teachers had such a deep impact on my education that I wanted to do the same for the next generation. As I entered the Elementary Education Program at Northern Illinois University I began to expand on the grade band I was interested in originally. I now have ample experience throughout the different grade levels.

Special Education

My passion for special education was something I never expected. I had only ever wanted to work as an elementary educator. This was until I took Introduction to Special Education at Illinois Valley Community College. After completing this class I changed my original degree path and took extra classes to prepare myself for a Special Education program. I chose to attend NIU because I could pursue my LBS-I endorsement within their Elementary Education Program.

● Implementation of Project Based Learning related to visual arts.

● Teacher Sponsor for December 2020 Virtual Play.

● Participated in IEP and 504 meetings and kept data on students related to their accommodations and modifications listed.

August 2020 - December 2020

● Collaborated with fifth grade teachers to plan learning activities that were authentic, multimodal and aligned to Common Core State Standards.

● Attended district professional development days and participated in school events such as Virtual Meet the Teacher Night and Parent Teacher Conferences.

● Participated in IEP meetings and kept data on students related to their accommodations and modifications.
